Mary Linnea Vaughan from Santa Rosa, CA and Hastings, Nebraska, will be the Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio Museum, 212 S. Main St., Lindsborg, Wednesday, May 01 through Friday, May 31. Her project within that time frame would be about producing 15 to 30 new pieces that demonstrate the subject matter she works with. “My work is about earth and its natural entities as metaphor to our own experiences…One’s environment may not cast what a person will become in stone, but it certainly influences directions and how one learns to see.” The time spent in the studio “…is important to the cadence of producing and developing ideas. There is the discipline and actual labor of painting and there is all it takes to get into that ‘blissful state’ within the work that Picasso talked about–the space one has to occupy without interruption whereby thoughts are consumed by one thing, focus on the making and where that will lead.” While at the studio, Vaughan will produce 15 to 30 news pieces that demonstrate the subject matter she works with. Mary Vaughan will, also, be present at the studio during the Artwalk, Friday, May 10, 5-8PM. Vaughan earned an MFA from the Maine College of Art, Portland, Maine and an MA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, R.I.
