Mixed Media Collage uses a visual language of imagery, shape, color, and line. Extraordinary compositions are achieved that exist with a degree of independence from visual references. This type of art can be liberating since it is free of the confines of perspective and realism, and seeks only to satisfy the whims of the artist.
In this 4 day course with professional visual artist Dana Finimore, students will spend one day out in nature (a local area national park), sketching, taking photos, or just simply observing the natural surroundings. During the following 3 days in the studio, students will create mixed media works derived from their day in nature using a wide array of materials and mediums. Originality is encouraged so students can step out of their comfort zones and relax into the process of creating. This class is about giving each student full artistic license to explore and allow the work to be an intuitive response to the nature immersion, examining the elements of shape, line, texture, and color.
Material Fee: $20 due to instructor on first day of class
