This event is a fun event where the students compete on an array of different math activities; some activities involve an individual round, a sprint round, a team round, relay round, and much much more. It was a lot of fun! : -))
Mathleague.org, the largest network of local and state math competitions at the elementary, middle and high school levels in the country is teaming up with Maricopa Institute of Technology to conduct a middle school math competition for sixth through eighth graders. Last year, over 22000 students worldwide participated in these contest and they had a great time doing math problems and meeting their peers from other schools. These contests also provide an excellent opportunity for coaches from the various schools to discuss strategies and teaching techniques. Over 150 schools in the Phoenix area have been invited.
Students will compete on four different tests: the Sprint Round, will consist of 30 questions in 40 minutes (no calculators); the Target Round, will consist of 4 sets of two questions - six minutes for each pair (calculators allowed); the Team Round, where the four team members work together to solve 10 problems in 20 minutes (calculators allowed); and the Countdown Round, where the top students compete one-on-one against each other in front of the audience. The Countdown Round is just for fun, and scores do not affect team or individual totals.
