The Sun Valley Summer Symphony is pleased to announce its first-ever Winter Festival. The Festival will include three concerts and several education and community events during the week of February 19-24, 2019. The Symphony will perform concerts and host other events at the new Argyros Performing Arts Center, scheduled to open in November 2018, located at 120 Main St. S., Ketchum.
The Winter Festival will offer audiences a more intimate experience in a nightclub-like setting, featuring multiple sets of music, comfortable seating, and creative presentations of both new and familiar music. Current plans include concerts for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings (February 21-23), each lasting roughly two hours including intermissions. The programs will feature musicians from the Sun Valley Summer Symphony as well as guest artists.
The week will offer Symphony musicians and guest artists the opportunity to work with students in the Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s School of Music, both on-site at the Argyros and at public school campuses in Hailey. The Symphony will also offer educational programs for adults. In keeping with the mission of the Symphony, all events will be admission free.
Symphony Executive Director Derek Dean explains, “This week is the result of Music Director Alasdair Neale’s longstanding desire to expand our musical offerings beyond the summer. The Argyros, with its world-class acoustical systems, offers the perfect opportunity for us to present a Winter Festival.”
Alasdair Neale comments: “The Winter Festival will feature Symphony musicians in a completely different setting, opening up the possibility of new and innovative programming. This will be classical music performed in ways we expect our audiences have never experienced.”
Susan Monson, Sun Valley Summer Symphony board president sums up the organization’s enthusiasm for this new project by saying, “We love our summer home at the R.E. Holding Sun Valley Pavilion and intend to continue our performances there. By expanding our programming in the winter at The Argyros, we hope to engage an additional group of residents and tourists, and add another vibrant thread to our community’s extraordinary cultural fabric.”
More information about the Winter Festival including concert times and admission procedures will be announced later this year. For the latest information and news on the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, visit the Symphony website at svsummersymphony.org.
