Poland 1949: talented musician Wiktor is part of a group visiting remote villages to select young people for a show of authentic traditional Polish song and dance. During the auditions Wiktor meets the beautiful and mysterious Zula, and soon the two have started a passionate love affair. Over the next 15 years their romance faces many obstacles, yet they are always drawn back together. Based on the relationship of his own parents, this new film from Pawel Pawlikowski, the director of the Academy Award-winning Ida, is a passionate, music-filled love story set in a Cold War-era Europe. Shot in stunning black and white, Cold War deservedly won the Best Director prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
