David Young, euphonium
Student Recital
David Young presents "Seven League Boots," a euphonium master's recital. Richard Stern, professor of electrical and computer engineering, joins David on harpsichord for the first half, playing Purcell, J.S. Bach, and little-known German soprano and composer Franziska Danzi Lebrun. We then take a giant step from 1780 to 2022 to premiere Capriccio Metamorfico, by David's father-in-law Paul Seare, and his own cantata The Couch of Death, featuring his wife, Sariah Seare, and Dr. Paul Miller.
Born and raised in Boise, ID, David has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Utah State University. He came to Pittsburgh, PA, to study with Lance LaDuke, and will soon graduate from Carnegie Mellon University with a Master’s degree in Music Performance. David takes special interest in music of the Baroque era and has a growing portfolio of Baroque chamber music that he has adapted for and performed on euphonium (including pieces by Vivaldi, Telemann, Bach, Leclair, and Strozzi). He also composes, with a predilection toward art song, and he is excited to present his first chamber work for euphonium, The Couch of Death. After graduation he plans to pursue a PhD in musicology, looking at schools such as UCLA, Harvard, and Yale. David can be found on YouTube at King Avenue Music.
