Vanessa Lopez currently performs as a substitute flutist and piccoloist, including with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and Huntington Symphony Orchestra. In 2020, she won the Beverly Hills National Auditions and was a semi-finalist at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. From California’s central valley, Vanessa is a firm believer that her education and success is partially a result of the organizations and individuals who made music accessible to her, and she is an advocate for music education equity. Vanessa stays connected to the Pittsburgh community by performing at retirement homes in the area through Musicians with a Mission, and previously enjoyed working as a Harmony Project Teaching Artist and a UCLA Outreach Fellow. Vanessa graduated from UCLA with her B.A. in Music Performance and Mathematics, and in 2023 will receive her M.M. in Flute Performance from the Carnegie Mellon School of Music. Her teachers include Alberto Almarza, Diana Morgan, Denis and Erin Bouriakov, Sheridon Stokes, and Dr. Jeannine Dennis.
