Welcome to Mosaic, a euphonium recital and showcase of intersectional art presented by Nicole Guccione. As artists, many of us create socially conscious artwork and use art as a means for social justice and exploration of identity. This event serves to highlight all of the beautiful ways in which artists may incorporate the theme of Intersectionality into their artwork. A live performance of Nicole’s senior recital of euphonium repertoire written by marginalized composers will be paired with a gallery of artworks contributed by several CMU students. This art showcase will include gender-bending costume design, drag art, a collage of written activism, body-neutral visual art, agroecological architectural design, queer art, and much more. This event is supported by CMU FEMME, MOSAIC Conference on Intersectionality, and the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. You won’t want to miss this afternoon of inspiration and vision!
Nicole Guccione is a musician passionate about the intersections of music, equity, and societal marginalization. Guccione is a euphonium performance major with a double minor in gender studies and ethics at Carnegie Mellon University, Class of 2023. She aspires to translate these passions into a multifaceted career involving activism, nonprofit work, musicological research, and freelance performance. At Carnegie Mellon University, based in Pittsburgh, PA, Guccione is the president of the School of Music Student Advisory Board, a vice-president of FEMME (Feminists Engaged in Multicultural Matters and Education), and a member of the Humanist League. She also serves on the School of Music DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) committee and the Mosaic Conference on Intersectionality planning committee. Her mentors include Lance LaDuke, Lonna Smith, and Don Carter. Guccione is on the Dean’s List, an Andrew Carnegie Society Scholar, a Presser Scholar, and a Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society member. Outside of school, she is a research intern with the Boulanger Initiative, a nonprofit advocating for gender equity in music, and volunteered at the 2022 International Women’s Brass Conference. Originally from Rockland County, New York, Guccione has always had a passion for music and she also enjoys singing and playing the baritone ukulele and piano.
