Joanna Lau is currently pursuing her Masters in Music at Carnegie Mellon, studying with Lorna McGhee. As an orchestral musician, Joanna actively subs with the New World Symphony, Canton Symphony, and the Johnstown Symphony Orchestras. She has also been a Flute Fellow at Music Academy of the West, National Orchestra Institute, and Round Top Festival Institute. Joanna aspires to breathe life and imagination into music both as a performer and a teacher, and she is passionate about sharing the enlivening power of music with others. She has a small studio of private flute students and regularly plays at Aspinwall Presbyterian Church services. Joanna also holds a degree in Neuroscience with a minor in English from Harvard College. Her former teachers include Cynthia Meyers, Elizabeth Rowe, and Linda Chesis. When Joanna is not playing the flute, she enjoys writing, drinking coffee, doing anything active, and—of course—taking lots of naps.
