Cassandra (Cassie) May is a second year student at Carnegie Mellon University, pursuing a dual degree in Decision Science and Violin Performance. Raised in the Bay Area, she studied violin with Patricia Burnham for 14 years and David Chernyavsky for 3 years. At CMU, Cassie has been studying in William Van der Sloot’s studio. Orchestrally, Cassie has held positions as concertmaster of the Golden State Youth Orchestra and assistant concertmaster of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. Cassie has also had masterclasses with notable musicians such as David Kim, Mark Kaplan, the Kronos Quartet, Daedalus Quartet, and Maxwell Quartet. Her solo accolades include multiple wins at the GSYO concerto competition, the Junior Bach Festival, Palo Alto Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and Peninsula Symphony Young Musicians Competition. Internationally, she has won prizes at the KAMSA and ENKOR competitions and recently received the Pittsburgh Female College Association Award.
