Marlene von Dürckheim
“Stones of Greece“
Marlene von Dürckheim’s upcoming exhibition is dedicated to the Nine Muses who were the embodiment of the highest intellectual and artistic values in ancient Greece, bestowing inspiration on poets and artists alike.
The primary source of inspiration for Marlene von Dürckheim’s exhibition is the art, architecture and myth of ancient Greece. For her it is travelling back to the past and into the future.
Any myth or story has meaning and in retelling it, it becomes a history creating an opportunity to have a meaningful dialogue and to inspire the viewer with the overwhelming grandeur of ancient Greek culture.
To understand who and what we are, we need to delve into our ancient past even if there are only ruins and fragments left, for their stones tell us a rich and varied story.
The exhibition will be held from 19 January to 15 February 2020 at the IS Art Gallery, 11 Huguenot Street, Franschhoek, South Africa; Telephone: 0027 (0)21 876 2071, Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
